US Open Golf Championship: June 12 to 15

UPDATE: Woods and Mediate have forced a US Open playoff on Monday June 16. Airing on ESPN at 12 and NBC at 2 PM EST.

The 2008 US Open begins Thursday, June 12th and is scheduled to run until Sunday, June 15th (unless a playoff is necessary on Monday the 16th). ESPN and NBC are sharing coverage of the event, with the broadcasts extending through primetime on the east coast.

Week day coverage starts at 1:00 PM EST on Thursday and Friday, alternating between ESPN and NBC throughout both days. ESPN gets the 1:00 - 3:00 PM ET and 5:00 - 10:00 PM ET slots on both days, while NBC fills the 3:00 - 5:00 PM ET slot. Over the weekends, NBC will broadcast from 4:00 -10:00 PM ET on Saturday and 3:00 - 9:00 PM ET on Sunday. Of course, all coverage will be available in high definition. (It is nice that we are now able to add that ‘of course’ part after years of suffering through SD Majors).

This is the first time the US Open is being broadcast live in primetime high definition in the tournament’s history.

UPDATE 6/10/2008:According to a recent ESPN Press Release, ESPN and DirecTv are teaming up to broadcast HD Interactive channels for Torrey Pines’ notorious third hole. Both ESPN and DirecTv are advertising “HD where available.”
