2008 World Series Schedule
After a five game NLCS and a seven game ALCS the World Series Schedule for 2008 is finally set. The Philadelphia Phillies will play the Tampa Bay Rays in a possible seven game World Series.
All the games will be on Fox, which has been splitting Post-season coverage with TBS throughout the Playoffs. Unlike TBS, however, Fox is much more available in HD around the country. This is great for all our readers who chimed in about missing the Playoffs in HD because their carriers were lacking TBS HD.
The first game is Wednesday October 22, starting at 8PM on Fox.

Games 1, 2, 6 (if necessary) and 7 (if necessary) are in St. Petersburg. Games 3, 4 and (if necessary) 5 are in Philadelphia.
Also, Game 6 would air at 8:30 PM ET. The Barack Obama campaign has bought airtime at 8 PM ET for a 30-minute political broadcast.

If you don’t want to sit through FOX’s pre game show, the estimated first pitches for each of the games are 8:35 p.m. for Games 1, 3 and 6 and 8:29 p.m. for Games 2, 4, 5 and 7.

Why is the series starting on a Wednesday this year. I recall Tuesday as the traditional starting day with a travel day on Thursday. That leaves Friday, Saturday and Sunday with prime-time evening telecasts and competition only from the NFL on Sunday evening. Under this schedule, the series is challenged on both Sunday and Monday nites by the NFL.. No wonder they expect low ratings.

Jason,
thanks so much for the estimated first pitches. One of my biggest (sport) pet peeves is the boring pre-games in: WS, Super Bowls, Stanley Cup, etc. which lasts half an hour too long. Why can’t espn.com undermine Fox & MLB and display when the first pitch will be?

The Series has begun on a Wednesday for the past 3-4 years. Because of the Series there’s no Sunday Night Football this week.

Drew:
No problem. ESPN lists the games starting at 8 p.m. probably because they have every game on ESPN Radio and want you to listen from 8-8:30 to their pre game show. The first pitch times are on CBS Sportsline.
And this is the first year that the WS started on a Tuesday in recent years. It used to be Sa-Su-Tu-We-Th-Sa-Su.
