September 6th ABC/ESPN 2 Coverage Maps
ABC and ESPN 2 have released the coverage maps for the Saturday September 3rd 3:30 reverse mirror. ABC will air three games in the 3:30 window, but only two of the games are included in the reverse mirror and not all the games are in HD.
ESPN on ABC at 3:30 will air Oregon State vs Penn State for most of the country, Cincinnati vs Oklahoma and Mississippi vs Wake Forest for the rest. The Cincinnati vs Oklahoma game will not be aired in high definition or a part of the reverse mirror with ESPN 2.

ESPN 2 will air Mississippi vs Wake Forest in HD for those in the green area and Oregon State vs Penn State for those in the yellow. Those receiving the Oregon State vs Penn State game on ESPN 2 will NOT be receiving it in HD, even though it’s in HD on ABC for those outside that region.

Hmm, so much for the 100% HD coverage of college football that was promised (link below) from ESPN and ABC for this year huh? What a freaking joke.

This is BS! Worse than NBC’s coverage of the Olympics! I guess I will have to drop college football from my viewing plan. If ABC and ESPN can’t deliver on thier promises, then NBC and Notre Dame will be my only CFB entertainment this year. Wake up fans, they are painting us into a corner which we must buy PPV to see the teams we want. They still have not delivered on the HD promise and their reverse mirror is full of crap. Boycott now. I will record the game in my area and then write to every sponsor and let them know that I will not be buying their poducts.

Cincy-OU isn’t in HD? Nice going ABC . . . How much longer do we have to wait? It is 2008 after all . . .
September 4th, 2008 at 9:28 am
I live 90 minutes from Cincinnati and cannot watch the UC-OU game on either ABC or ESPN2. What a joke. Why would someone in Columbus care about Wake and Ole Miss over an in-state BCS school?
September 4th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Yah, very disappointing. So sick of watching games in SD on HD equipment. Either way, it’s approaching 2009 and inexcusable for money machines like ABC not to be 100% HD. That, and how do they choose to go HD on Mississippi-WF when OU-Cincy has greater coverage area? My guess is decision maker bias… not logistics. Logistics say that the 3% difference is equal to 3.3 million more households to be satisfied with your service.

There are actual Oklahoma fans that live on the east coast. show a game that has actual meaning. Miss VS Wake Forest?
September 4th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
I am extremely disappointed in ABC for not following through with their promise. And of course it’s almost always the Big 12 fans that are getting the shaft yet again. So get ready for lots of 2:30pm OU and Texas games in glorious SD again this year it looks like. That’s just pathetic…

The #4 team in the country hosting a ten-win team from last year can’t rate an HD broadcast?
There’s a word for that. “Idiotic” comes to mind….
September 4th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Get over it. It wont be the end of the world. In the meantime I get to watch the Rebels in HD. h
September 4th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Yeah, big OU fans on the West coast too!
Miss VS Wake Forest? Oh, please!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:10 am
Go Bearcats! Lick my ass ABC!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:39 am
The comments above about OU and Cincy say enough. What a joke ABC.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:04 am
Great, I can’t wait to watch a bad SEC team play Wake Forest. It’ll be a ratings bonanza.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:35 am
Why do you assume that the Memphis area wants to watch a Missippi team? In order to see our beloved Sooners we would have to drive to Ft. Smith, AR or St. Louis, Mo. We might as well drive to Norman at this rate. In this age of technology, we should have a choice of which game wherever we live. Between “blackouts” for teams that can’t sell their tickets and regional coverage dominated by people who aren’t familiar with the regions, we only get to watch our arch rivals at best.

Ole Miss is in Oxford, which gets its ABC from Memphis. The northern part of Mississippi also happens to be on the Tennessee border.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
This is more than disappointing. I went out and bought an HD and got HD programming to see OU play this season. Absolute BS. Who draws these coverage maps? No one in AZ cares about Oregon!!
September 5th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
once again i’ll miss OU on tv. forget the BCS, coverage maps are the most frustrating aspect of college football.
September 6th, 2008 at 9:59 am
AD: Oregon State is in the Pac-10 — and ABC always sends Pac-10 games into Arizona.
September 6th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
I am a little upset about not getting to watch OU either here in Little Rock. We normally get the Big 12 ABC games here but it is not even our secondary game since for some reason OU/Cincy is not good enough for ESPN2. I do find it funny though that Little Rock is getting the Ole Miss/WF while Fayetteville, the city that actually has an SEC team, gets to see OU/Cincy.
September 6th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
What an absolute joke. You show the other 2 games in HD but not the OU-Cincy game in HD. It’s complete BS. The picture is absolutely horrible in SD. Good job ABC
September 6th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
These coverage maps are strictly based on television DMA markets. I know they don’t make sense, but that’s why Fayetteville/Fort Smith is seeing the OU game and not Ole Miss vs. Wake Forest. Northwest Arkansas is too close to the Oklahoma state line to not show the OU game.
I live in northern Kentucky and get to see the OU game…but I am pissed that it is not in HD. What’s up with that?
September 6th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
bombard them with snail mail, emails, etc, asking for HD programming for NCAAF games. You are all right, it is ridiculous to not get HD for these games.
September 6th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Wow, as an Aggie I guess I should be happy for my Versus broadcast…
September 6th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
ABC - WHAT’S WITH SHUTTING THE PSU GAME OFF FOR
US IN NEW JERSEY? SO WHAT IF THEY ARE DOMINATING - ISN’T THAT WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT. LET’S HOPE ABC DOESN’T GET THE RIGHTS TO ANY MORE PSU GAMES - GO BIG 10 NETWORK. WE HAVE A BIG FAN BASE HERE IN NJ AND SHOULDN’T BE SHUT OUT. YOU SHOULD THINK BEFORE YOU ACT.
September 6th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Would have loved to finish watching the Oregon State game…
September 7th, 2008 at 12:10 am
I love that the highlights of OU/Cincinnati on SportsCenter are in HD, yet we didn’t get that during the live broadcast today. ABC/ESPN blows…
September 8th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
6ABC in Philadelphia had to stay with Penn State. ABC7 in New York was switched out.
FWIW Penn State-Syracuse is one of the ABC early games this Saturday.
September 13th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
WHere are the referees from that always work the games in the coliseum? Horrible. I’m not a USC or Ohio State fan, but the officials are in the tank for USC. This should be a closer game but because of all the holding penalties and crap calls by the homers it’s not. The Maulua interception was a joke, he stepped out on the five yard line - any fool could see that, however, the officials couldn’t overrule the call on the field cause their in the tank.Shame on NCAA.

Thanks abc for showing a game that has no effect whatsoeveron the natinal rankings(nebraska and west virginia)instead of two top 25 teams(PENN STATE and Illinois)in the majority of the country. I live in Arizona and along with everyone else will watch a game that matters on a different network. Send me an email when u decide to start covering games that matter on the national stage.
September 26th, 2008 at 5:29 pm
If u guys r so proud of your scheduling why dont u show us your ratings for each game before and after u switch games in the 3rd quarter. Thanks for not addressing any of your viewers concerns
