Are you ready for some football?

The 2008 NFL preseason high definition coverage kicks off tonight with the NFL Hall of Fame Game on NBC Sunday Night Football. Then, “Hard Knocks” premiers Wednesday, August 6th at 10:00 PM ET. Unfortunately, still no word from CBS about whether they will be stepping up to full time coverage when the regular season starts.

Even though NFL preseason games are really only exciting for the first 10 minutes (even when they are in high definition) we’ll still be watching the Indianapolis Colts and Washington Redskins face off tonight at 8:00 PM ET on NBC HD.

Probably a little higher on our priority list is the season premier for the fourth installment of “Hard Knocks”, the reality training camp series on HBO. This year the NFL Films crew returns to Cowboys training camp, where they promise to shoot 950 hours of high definition footage.

On Thursday, August 7 at 8:00 PM ET, NFL HD pre-season football continues with the season premier of ESPN’s coverage featuring the New Orleans Saints vs. Arizona Cardinals. You can check out the rest of the NFL preseason high definition schedule in our guide.

Unfortunately, we still have not added the CBS NFL games to our schedule since we have not received any official indication that all games will be in high definition. We were called out this week by EngadgetHD for still not believing that CBS will be producing all of their NFL games in HD this year. I wouldn’t say that we do not believe it, we are just remaining “cautiously hopeful”.

All of us agree that CBS SHOULD be producing all of their games in HD this year, but our contact at CBS continues to indicate that his best information is 6 to 7 games per week. We are keeping our fingers crossed like the rest of you, and as soon as we hear something we will let you know. (Of course, if you hear something first, please let us know).

    If CBS doesn’t pull through with 100% HD coverage than they should be ashamed and embarrased. Maybe that is why they have not come out and said one way or the other what they are doing.

    Agree 100%, Alan. Two years ago is one thing, but it’s time for them to step up. Why are they so far behind Fox? And as a Bills fan who relies on Sunday Ticket, I can thank our foes in the AFC East for Buffalo in HD. Seems to me last year places like Cincy and Cleveland really got hosed.

    According to CBSsportsline.com, all but one game a week will be in CBS HD. Some weeks, all games will be in HD. I think this has to do with some of their HD production equipment being tied up with their national SEC game of the week on Saturdays. This is still an improvement.

    @LclLgnd:

    Do you have a link to where you are seeing this on CBSSportsline.com? The NFL schedule we have found there does not yet indicate which games are in HD> If they do have a schedule which indicates that in a given week all but one game will be in HD, then that is likely the answer to the question “will all CBS NFL games be in HD in 2008″

  5. d2001dstanley Says:

    Right now, CBS has the schedule listed for the first eight weeks. Games that are scheduled to be in HD have “-HD (Regional)” attached to the end of the games in the TV column. Games that are scheduled to be in SD don’t have that attached to it.
