Beijing Olympic Schedule News
The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing start Friday 8.8.08 and broadcast schedules are still shifting as the games approach. It’s old news that the games will be exclusively on NBC Networks, but DirecTV and NBC recently made announcements hinting at a more defined broadcast plan.
DirecTV has recently said that they will be featuring 10 Video on Demand (VOD) events per week on their DIRECTV on DEMAND channels. The “events” will be neither live nor actual games from the Olympics, but featured NBC HD programming about the athletes and the Beijing Olympics. The service is available to anyone with a DTV Plus HD DVR or R22 DVR receiver on channel 1008, or on 1000 for gold-medal highlights from previous events from the 2008 Summer Games.
Not confirmed, but suspected is that DirecTV will have an Olympic Sports Mix channel, similar to the ones used for the Masters Golf and French Open Tennis Tournaments
Also, a recent email from the spokeswoman for NBC stated that listings and highlight emails would be coming out from the network with a much higher frequency after the games start. Hopefully these emails will more clearly detail the exact starting times of events that will be live in the US.
So, for now, hold tight until this all gets sorted out. Though it’s tough, we’re willing to cut NBC some slack with the broadcast information, considering they’re broadcasting from half a world away.
