CBS College Sports & ESPNU to offer HD Football

CBS College Sports, formerly known as CSTV, is now available in high definition on DirecTV and should be available soon on other carriers. While the HD channel is currently only broadcasting upconverted simulcasts of standard definition live programming, the network indicates that they will be producing “some” of their college football games in HD this fall.

So far the only promises made for live HD college football are the five Navy football games the network will be carrying. Until then, it looks like the network will consist mainly of upconverted SD and replays of SEC football games and 2008 NCAA Tournament games previously produced by CBS Sports in high definition.

It has been previously announced that ESPN U HD will launch in August, and they have promised to air more than 200 HD events this year. These events will certainly include mostly college football.

So now the speculation begins… how many high definition college football games do you think will be available across all of the HD networks each week?

I think the over/under line for the first week should be 27.5 live HD games if you include FSN and other networks that may only be available in some areas.

  2. Alan Says:

I’ll take the under, especially the first week when baseball games are using up trucks and most of the matchups are weak.

  3. Arnold Says:

I guess I will be tuning into ESPN U and CSTV for the first time ever. If it is not in HD, I don’t watch it.
