College Football Schedule Roundup

The start to 2008 College Football is just a month away, and the College Football Schedules are starting to come into focus. ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U, ABC, FSN, NBC, CBS and The Big Ten Network have all announced some games for the upcoming season.

With the addition of ESPN U HD, the ESPN family of networks has positioned itself as the biggest provider of HD College Football this year. The network has advertised that it will broadcast over 400 College Football games this year, but that some will be on ESPN Radio, ESPN360.com or ESPN Classic, which don’t have HD capability. So far, we have over 90 confirmed HD games for the ESPN networks, and many more to come, as the College Football schedule is normally finalized only days to a week before the game.

ABC is again planning to “reverse mirror” the 3:30 PM Saturday games with ESPN and ESPN 2, a procedure the networks have practiced since the start of the 07 College Football Season. It basically ensures that people in a local market will receive the game most relevant to them on ABC, and that a different game will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN 2 in their market. So Far ABC has announced a possible 29 HD games this season.

FSN is broadcasting Big 12 and PAC-10 games again this year and so far they’ve announced 31. Of that 31, however, many of the games after September20 have yet to be determined matchups.

CBS will return with HD football, as will NBC. CBS is slow to announce their games, having only confirmed 3 so far. NBC will again carry every Notre Dame home game and some travel games in HD.

Finally, Big Ten Network is returning again this year with HD coverage of (you guessed it) Big Ten Conference matchups. Look for regionalized broadcasts depending on your Cable/Satellite provider and market. We’ll have more on that as the games draw near, but we’re planning on having a weekly summary of markets for BTN’s coverage, like we have currently for Fox’s MLB Game of the Week.

Enjoy the season, and be sure to check back weekly for updates and additions. Also, don’t forget you can follow us on Twitter @HDSportsGuide for up to the minute changes and updates on your web browser or mobile phone.
