ESPN Sports Domination is a Good Thing for HD
You may have heard that ESPN recently outbid Fox by $100 million for the rights to carry the College Football BCS from 2011 through 2014. They are also apparently gearing up for a run at the Olympics in 2014 and 2016.
The New York Times has an interesting article about the competitive edge ESPN has over traditional networks in bidding for sports rights given their cable/satellite revenue and other sources of income from their website, magazine, radio network, etc.
The good news is that ESPN certainly has the high definition channels to handle these major events and they have proven that they can dedicate more (and better) HD pre- and post-event coverage than any other network.
