Kentucky Derby in High Definition on NBC

Once again NBC will be covering the 134th Kentucky Derby in 1080i high definition. NBC coverage starts at 4:00 PM ET with an “Access Hollywood” Derby Special, and a red carpet special, but sadly these programs will not be in high definition. Pre-race HD coverage starts at 5:00 PM ET, a full hour and 4 minutes before post time at 6:04 PM.

Last year’s NBC Kentucky Derby coverage include high definition shots from a blimp, and MetLife confirms that Snoopy 2 will be in attendance.

ESPN will broadcast a Kentucky Derby Special, but will not be carrying the race in high definition. NBC has the sole rights to the race until 2010.

The favorites for this year’s Kentucky Derby are Big Brown with 3:1 odds, followed by Colonel John with 4:1 odds and Pyro with 6:1 odds. The only filly this year is Eight Belles with 20:1 odds.
