Masters High Definition Coverage Viewers Guide

Once again, the Masters Tournament coverage is likely to be one of the best high definition productions of 2008. Beginning Wednesday, April 9 with the Masters Par 3 Contest, and continuing through the final hole on Sunday, April 13, there will be at least 16 hours of live Masters high definition broadcasts.

For the 9th year, CBS Sports will be producing the golf tournament live in HDTV, and this will be the 6th consecutive year that the standard analog and high definition productions will be unified for 18 hole coverage. The 2008 Masters high definition coverage will feature 60 HD cameras, including 10 hand-held HDTV cameras.

EARLY ROUNDS OF THE MASTERS ON ESPN HD

This is the first year of ESPN HD Masters coverage, with the first two rounds on April 10 and 11, from 4 PM to 7 PM ET each night in 720p high definition. ESPN will also broadcast the Masters Par 3 Contest in high definition for the first year, which will be live on Wednesday, April 9 from 3-5 PM ET. The Par 3 Contest is a Master’s tradition which began in 1960, featuring Tournament participants, non-competing past champions and honorary invitees.

All of the ESPN Masters coverage will also be available live on-line, streaming in high definition on ESPN360.com

53rd CONSECUTIVE MASTERS BROADCAST ON CBS SPORTS

Live third-round coverage will be on CBS in 1080i high definition on Saturday April 12 between 3:30 PM and 7 PM ET. The final round 18 hole coverage will begin Sunday, April 13 at 2:30 PM continuing through the last put. For the 23rd year, Jim Nantz will cover the Masters, including a nightly Highlights Show from Butler Cabin at 11:30 PM ET on Thursday and Friday night. Former Masters champion Nick Faldo will serve as lead analyst with Jim Nantz in the 18th hole tower.

EXCLUSIVE DIRECTV MASTERS EXPERIENCE

DirecTV Masters High Definition Experience

For DirecTV customers, the DirecTV Masters Experience will provide an exclusive HD Masters Mix Channel with four windows of high definition coverage and an interactive leaderboard. Similar to the popular mix channels available for MLB Extra Innings, NFL Sunday Ticket and other sports packages, the channel will feature four constant feeds, including: (a) live coverage of the high definition CBS or ESPN broadcast, (b) live coverage from “Amen Corner”, (c) live coverage of the difficult 15th and 16th holes and (d) a continuously updated highlights window. DirecTV customers will also be able to see a recap show on the satellite provider’s The 101.

So will there be Thursday & Friday coverage on CBS-DT like they have done in the past?

  2. Jeff Says:

Directv’s “extra” coverage was lame. It didn’t come on until ESPN did at 4pm. Ahmen corner and 15/16 were available via Masters.org much earlier in the day.
