MLB Opening Day in High Definition
While the 2008 Major League Baseball season “officially” kicked off earlier this week in Japan, since most of us did not watch the games live, the season starts Sunday night and Monday. For HD enthusiasts, there is certainly a lot of high definition baseball coverage to sink your teeth into, with only one game not available in high definition.
NOTE: We have been unable to find any indication that the season opener of Arizona vs. Cincinnati will be available in high definition.
Opening night is Sunday at 8:05 PM ET with a national game on ESPN HD, featuring a matchup between the Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals, from the ballpark in Washington, D.C.
On MLB Opening Day, 13 out of the 14 games being played will be produced in high definition somewhere, and a total of 25 different HD broadcasts will be available between Regional and National networks. Fans of the following teams will be unable to see their opening game in high definition within the home market:
- Tampa Bay Rays
- Colorado Rockies
- Texas Rangers
- Minnesota Twins
- Houston Astros
- Arizona Diamondbacks
- Cincinnati Reds
NOTE: The Washington Nationals opening day game from Philadelphia will not be available in high definition in the DC area, but the home opener on Sunday night will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, so they are not on the list.
ESPN and ESPN 2 will be providing two national games each on Monday for out-of-market teams as well. If you time things right, most people should be able to watch non-stop baseball in high definition between 1 PM ET Monday and Midnight.
