MLB Playoffs Close, but do you get TBS HD?

With MLB Playoffs starting on Wednesday October the first, much is left up in the air about the post season broadcast schedule. Possible ties and looming storms may prolong the regular season into Tuesday, a day which was originally set aside as a day off. This should not cause much delay in determining which teams play Wednesday in the first Playoff game, but it is down to the wire for teams to win their way through.

After all the teams and matchups are finalized, there are still hurdles for baseball fans to overcome. The first round of the playoffs will air in high definition solely on TBS, a network that has not fully made its way onto all the cable and satellite carriers. TBS HD is on more carriers now than it was when it was introduced last year at this time, but it’s still not readily available to everyone around the country.

According to what we know, DirecTV, Dish Network, AT&T, Cox, Cablevision, Brighthouse, Insight and Comcast all provide TBS HD readily to their subscribers, but other major carriers such as Verizon, Charter, CableOne, TWC, Suddenlink and Mediacom provide the network to some subscribers but not all of them.

What’s been your experience? Personally, we don’t have all of these networks. Sure, we’d like to, but we have to rely on you, dear readers, for feedback about which networks will carry the MLB Playoffs on TBS in HD. Anyone not have TBS HD on one of the carriers we’ve listed?

  1. Jeff Says:

You left out Time Warner Cable in NYC we get TBS HD.

  2. Ken Says:

I receive TBS HD on DISHNETWORK, well before I received FOX in HD. In fact last season had to watch many of the games in SD.

  3. Jim Says:

Verizon does not have TBS HD. On Oct 9 they are adding a bunch of new HD channels. TBS will be one of them hopefully but until then I have to watch my Angels in standard. Bummer!

  4. Jay Says:

Charter in Wisconsin (Madison market) had plans to add TBS-HD in August; that has been delayed and the latest mailings say they’ll be adding TBS-HD Oct 14 … that means no HD Brewers playoff games for us Charter customers.

  5. Steve Says:

It is very funny how a year’s time changes nothing! I dropped Verizon FiOS last October when they failed to provide TBS HD over their massive fiber optic bandwidth and it sounds like nothing has changed. While Verizon FiOS does have some great offerings on the movie side, the clear sports leader continues to be DirecTv and that is where I will continue to spend my hard earned TV entertainment dollar.

  6. Bob Says:

Charter in Madison, WI. No TBS HD. They pushed it back. I have called Charter often about this, and it is like talking to a brick wall. The same thing happened in Chicago last year with Comcast, and they caved at the last minute and added TBS HD to their lineup. I am hoping the same happens here so I am watch MLB Playoffs in HD. It’s sad for the amount I pay each month that I cannot watch the playoffs in HD!

  7. Rob Says:

I totally agree with Steve. While DirecTV certainly has their issues (they refuse to install a SWM so I still can’t even have a DVR!!), they are definitely the unquestioned leader when it comes to sports. No other service comes anywhere close.

  8. Bob Says:

Just got word that TBS HD will be added on Charter in Madison in time for the Brewers playoff games! Woo Hoo!

  9. Brad Says:

Comcast in Sacramento and Roseville, CA both do not carry TBS HD and do not have plans to yet. Please bring TBS HD to Comcast in Sacramento, CA and Roseville, CA.

  10. Ken Says:

Comcast in Seattle does not have TBS HD.

  11. Mark Says:

COMCAST in the Seattle market DOES NOT HAVE TBS HD yet. Please excuse the yelling, but I cannot believe that I am not watching the MLB playoffs in HD in 2008. I feel like I have been sent back to the dark ages of TV. There is no excuse for Comcast to do this. I will switch to Satellite if I do not have TBS HD by next season, since it appears the majority of the playoffs will now be on TBS. Get a clue COMCAST!!!

  12. david Says:

I agree, I love baseball and since TBS is carrying most of the 1st round of the playoffs, I am outraged that I cannot watch it on HD. COMCAST and TBS need to get a clue. Thats what people live for is watching sports on HD. MLB needs to get a clue also and negotiate with the right broadcast companies to ensure they are delivering their content to the most customers. This is totally rediculus..

  13. Jim Says:

I was astounded as well to discover that I had to watch the MLB playoffs on Comcast with no HD on TBS. What’s up with that? I may have to make the switch to DirectTV to get the MLB package next year. COMCAST seems to be the slowest off the mark once again relative to the competition.

  14. greg Says:

ditto on comcast in the seattle area not having tbs hd- that is a mistake in what is generally considered a high-tech community…

  15. Jim Says:

I have not been home the last few days but my friend tells me TBS HD has been added to Verizon Fios in our area. New channels were supposed to be available on Oct 9 but I guess this one has already been added. Kudos to Verizon for doing this

  16. Charlie Says:

Time Warner Cable in NW Ohio just severed their agreement with the local Fox affiliate, so none of us in the Toledo and surrounding areas can get any of the Division Series. They are broadcasting movies instead. Tried talking to them and got corporate speak for ‘not going to happen’.

  17. Brian Says:

HD-less in Seattle. It is very frustrating to spend $2,000 on an HD TV and $25/month to Comcast for HD programming only to get HD shutout for the ALDS. I used to have DishNetwork last year which didn’t carry Fox in HD so I switched to Comcast and now I find out that I don’t get TBS HD. The picture looks like Black and White after watching the NLDS in HD. Is this a contract dispute with Comcast and TBS HD like it was with DishNetwork and Fox HD? When will this be fixed?

  18. Brad Says:

    10-10-08

Still no TBS-HD on Comcast in Sacramento and Roseville, CA.

With Mojo-HD leaving, please bring TBS-HD, FX-HD, Fox News-HD, Fox Business-HD and others. People will go to DirecTV if Comcast doesn’t get with the program.

  19. Barillor Says:

TBS HD on Channel 232 available in the Annapolis, Maryland market but not listed in any channel guide or in the Comcast TV Planner.
