NFL Season Kickoff – Week 1 Coverage Maps
The Regular Season of the NFL kicks off tonight, and so without further delay we’re presenting the coverage guide for all of this weekend’s NFL games, according to information gathered from our posts leading up to this week as well as trusted sources from around the HD world.
This season of the NFL has promised more HD broadcasts than any season before it, but confused regionalized schedules and partial HD/SD coverage has cast a shadow over the “all HD–all season” excitement we felt mere weeks ago. That, however, won’t be stopping us (and we’re guessing you) from watching the NFL this year. That said, there is important coverage information to be gathered about each network, like which game will be high definition in your region for each network. Here’s what to look forward to in Week 1:
NBC (1080i)
The first game of the season will be broadcast on NBC tonight (9/4/2008) at 7 PM when the Washington Redskins host the New York Giants
NBC will be broadcasting all of their games nationally in high definition, so no maps or coverage information is needed. Fox and CBS, however, are both broadcasting games regionally.
Fox (720p)
For Week 1, Fox released their detailed coverage information for the 1:00 and 4:15 which we covered in our post yesterday cleverly titled “Fox NFL Coverage Info: Week 1“, but it appears that the information provided by Fox has changed since our last post. See the maps below for the up-to-date coverage info. Fox’s 1:00 PM window features 4 regionally-broadcasted games, including the Buccaneers vs the Saints which will be broadcast to 35% of US markets (and will be broadcast on time, despite recent hurricane worries). And the 4:15 window will showcase the Cowboys vs Browns in 85% of homes.
CBS (1080i)
CBS has released no information about coverage except to say that they would be broadcasting regionally and that the games would be in high definition. Luckily for us, JP Kirby over at the506.com made a great series maps for all the Fox and CBS games, which we’ve linked to in the table below.
