ESPN and ESPN 2 to Carry Four NIT Basketball Games in HD
The 2008 NIT, National Invitational Tournament, will be carried in its entirety on the ESPN family of networks. However, we have confirmed that only four high definition games will be available on ESPN and ESPN2.
There will be a total of 31 games in the NIT Tournament, with first and second rounds played at various locations. Only one of those early matchups, on March 22nd at 11 AM ET, will be available in high definition on ESPN. The Semifinals and Finals will be played at Madison Square Garden on April 1 and 3, and all three games will be in high definition. The doubleheader on April 1st will be on ESPN 2 HD starting at 7 PM, and the NIT Championship game will be broadcast on April 3rd on ESPN HD at 7 PM.
HDSportsGuide has confirmed with ESPN that there are currently no plans to add any additional HD NIT coverage to the schedule, even now that the brackets have been released.
The ESPN HD networks will cover one game from the second round of playoffs, both of the Semifinal games at MSG, and the Championship on April 3. Teams for the NIT will be selected on Sunday March 16, on ESPNU at 9.
