Olympics Kick-Off This Weekend
The 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing kick-off this weekend, with the opening ceremony airing tonight. Considering the significant time difference between Beijing and the US, and the huge number of Olympic Events scheduled over the relatively short span of the games, knowing when certain events will be televised can be difficult. Over the next two weeks, we will be doing our best to provide an updated and accurate Olympics schedule, but we only care about live events in HD.
This year, production of all Olympic events is in High Definition, but many broadcasts will be pre-recorded or aired on stations with no HD capability. Our 2008 Summer Olympics Schedule includes all the Live HD events NBC will be airing, including network and the best description information we can get our hands on.
Frequent changes and updates to the guide are likely, as our NBC rep tells us that the broadcast schedules could be changed. We will relay all information we obtain to you by updating the guide and posting changes on the HDSportsGuide Twitter feed, which we’ve come to use as our “micro-update” ticker for guide changes.
Note: For those who don’t know what Twitter is, don’t bother trying to understand it, just know that you can click on the above link to see our updates. You can also sign up for your own account to receive notices on your mobile phone. While you’re at it, you can start your own feed, and tell the rest of us what you are watching now… just don’t tell us about trampoline.
NBC has scheduled live HD events on NBC, USA, Universal, MSNBC and CNBC. There will also be events available online and on Telemundo, Oxygen and Lifetime, though these will not be in High Definition, as these stations lack the ability to produce and send HD signals.
The tricky bit with watching live HD Olympics comes with events on MSNBC CNBC and Universal HD. NBC has said that there will be live HD events on MSNBC and CNBC, while Universal will be simulcasting events from these stations, though it is unclear which of these two feeds Universal will pick up and when. Considering CNBC has an HD channel and MSNBC does not, we’re left to assume that if MSNBC and CNBC air live HD events simultaneously, Universal will air the MSNBC event in high definition, leaving CNBC to broadcast on its own network. Once the games start this will be clearer, but for now, events given to us as MSNBC have been listed on the guide as Universal events, where they can be seen in HD and CNBC events are simply listed as CNBC events.
Feel free to leave comments below, contact us if we missed an event.
Enjoy the games (享受比赛)

Thank you for these listings, it’s a great help to find not only live events but HD events.
Even though they are not “regular” channels, you could also check out the “NBC Olympic Basketball Channel” and the “NBC Olympic Soccer Channel,” both carried on Directv(R) and Dish Network and I would guess on major cable systems too. There’s probably duplication there but I bet one reason these channels are offered are that it will allow US viewers in the West and Mountain time zones to see events live, eg US-China men’s basketball tomorrow (Sunday 8/10).
