Ryder Cup Schedule for NBC and ESPN
Golf’s Ryder Cup is starting up this week, and NBC & ESPN are teaming up to deliver the goods. Opening Ceremonies are Thursday the 18th at 4, but first round play doesn’t start until the next day, Friday the 19th at 8:00am.
ESPN is set to carry the first round of play all day on Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. The network has advertised 35 hours of coverage at the Ryder Cup, but ESPN’s coverage on Friday is the only live tournament play that ESPN will be covering. The remaining 25 hours will devoted to the Opening Ceremony, SportsCenter live from Ryder and a re-airing of taped NBC Coverage.
NBC picks up where ESPN leaves off after the Opening Round and carries the Ryder Cup through the Final Rounds on Sunday. NBC’s 16 hours of coverage over Saturday and Sunday will all be in HD, making it the primary carrier of the 2008 Ryder Cup.
This marks the first Saturday of the 2008 that NBC is not carrying the Notre Dame Football game, as NBC is only carrying the home games for the Irish. As Notre Dame is at Michigan State this week, that game will be carried on ABC or ESPN, depending on your region. This leaves NBC free to carry the Second Round of the Ryder Cup Saturday un-interrupted.
