Scheduling Updates for the Beijing Olympics

NBC is slowly announcing its plans for the Beijing Olympics this summer, and will continue to do so up to and throughout the Olympics. You can follow this link to the Olympics HD Schedule as it stands now, but there will certainly be changes before and after Opening Ceremonies on 8.8.08.

It’s not news, but NBC Universal has complete rights to the Olympics in Beijing and will be splitting broadcasts across its various networks: NBC; USA; CNBC; MSNBC and Universal, all of which will carry live, High Definition events.

Previously, we’d made mention that NBC planned on filming all the events from Beijing in high definition, but it was still unclear as to how many of those HD events will be broadcast Live and HD in the US. That picture is starting to get a little clearer. Here’s a short list of issues that comes with setting a schedule for events being filmed live halfway across the Globe.

–We have a list of events scheduled for live HD, but no specific time-frame, only windows in which NBC and its affiliates are broadcasting “Live HD” events. We do expect this information in the coming weeks. Specific times could be updated on a day to day basis.

–NBC has made plans to broadcast live events on CNBC and MSNBC, and Universal HD will be simulcasting events broadcast on these channels. CNBC has its own high definition channel, but MSNBC does not. This leads us to assume that events broadcast on MSNBC are not high definition on MSNBC itself, could be available live on Universal HD. When live events are broadcast on both MSNBC and CNBC, we are not yet sure which event will be carried on Universal

Again, we’re expecting more information in the next few weeks. However, there will certainly be more than enough live high definition Olympic coverage for early risers.
