ABC/ESPN Coverage Map for November 21 3:30 Games
The ABC Regional Map for November 21 features two games. #14 Penn State will be traveling to take on Michigan State. This game will go to 86% of the country. The other game has Virginia visiting #23 Clemson, which will go to 14% of the country.
Clemson has a chance to clinch a spot in the ACC championship game. And they have one of the most exciting players in the game in CJ Spiller. We recently wasted quite a lot of time looking at some of his youtube highlights. This one was quite grainy, but still our favorite play.
Penn State is trying to keep their BCS hopes alive and with a win over Michigan State could make a fairly solid claim to be in a BCS bowl. It would be a shame if they were selected over an undefeated Boise State, but that is the current status of college football. Penn State has the gigantic fan base and a good enough team to get them in the top 16 so they have a good chance of being selected.
Here are the maps for the afternoon games, and the primetime ABC coverage map. Or the college football HD schedule.
Also check out Dan Patrick’s interview with the new BCS Executive director. I agree with the producer, my blood is boiling.

Thanks so much, ABC, for doing a split national when you could have put Virginia-Clemson on ESPN exclusively and given everybody two HD games. Those of us in ACC country will no doubt be relegated to SD for PSU-MSU.

ABC is contractually obligated to put a certain amount of Big 10 and ACC games on their network a year so that’s why. Blame the Big 10 for that and their reverse mirror game.

WHY do they reverse mirror a HD game to SD ESPN? What is the purpose of showing ESPNEWS on the HD channel??

Please pray for Charlie Weis, his family and his special needs daughter; and hope that if ND fires him, that he finds a new job quickly.

I’m not sure the Reverse-Mirror games are actually only offered in SD. I think that might vary by cable/satellite provider. I live in DC and I’m a DirecTV subscriber. I got to see UO trounce USC in HD on ESPN2 on Halloween night, even though the coverage map listed the game as SD-only in my coverage area:
http://www.hdsportsguide.com/news/2009/abcespn2-primetime-coverage-map-for-halloween/
I’m not sure why I was able to get over and a lot of other people got SD-screwed or blacked out that night, but I’m guessing there were technical issues (bandwidth, switchboard, etc) or contractual issues with particular cable/satellite providers that were to blame.
I’m a Penn Stater and I fully expect to see PSU vs. MSU in HD on ESPN2. If that doesn’t work out, at least I’ll be able to get the game in HD from ABC 2 Baltimore via my airwaves antenna (I’ll get over again). With the number of PSU and Big Ten alums/fans in the DC area, I always wonder why the non-VT and non-MD ACC games get so much network coverage here.
