ABC/ESPN2 Regional Coverage Maps for September 19

ABC will have multiple games on ABC in the 3:30 PM Eastern window this week. After a week of full national telecasts we are back with coverage maps. This week 53% of the country will get #3 USC vs. Washington on ABC. 36% will get #19 Nebraska vs. #13 Virginia Tech and 12% of the country will get Arizona vs. Iowa.

The Big Ten will once again be the game that is in HD in the reverse mirror. With Arizona vs. Iowa getting the nod over a game between two ranked teams. This has to be frustrating for all the fans of college football, because quite honestly in this window the Big Ten games have not been near as good as the other games as far as national rankings are concerned.

Sorry to all fans of USC and Washington. This game will not be a part of the reverse mirror, so if you are not in the ABC area you are going to you have to to GamePlan to see that game.

A list of ABC coverage maps is also available.

  1. Scotty Says:

You know, I really wish they would reverse mirror the two best game of the week every week. Instead they usually just do the big ten and ACC games. The first week I was happy when they did the Georgia-Oklahoma State game, but I live in Minnesota so no matter what I was getting that game plus the Michigan. I am happy to get Nebraska-Va. Tech on espn2 but I’d much rather see USC-Washington on ABC then the Iowa game. The if USC blows Washington out they could switch to Iowa. Oh well at least I get more than just iowa-arizona.

  2. Juan Says:

Iowa vs Arizona will actually be a game worth watching…

  3. Tim Says:

Uhh.. the reverse mirror for the Big Ten games is part of the last contract signed between ESPN/ABC.

  4. HDSportsGuide Says:

Tim: That doesn’t mean we have to like the Big Ten games getting the coverage over better games. ABC should have left it flexible, I really dislike the fact that the ESPN2HD game has to always be the Big Ten. A lot of times it will be the best game in that time slot but the two times it has happened this year it has not been.

  5. Kevin Says:

Good call ABC, not showing the only game with 2 ranked opponents on the majority of area…..

  6. Andy Says:

Don’t worry, Nebraska and Va Tech are two overrated teams from overrated conferences.

  7. Mike Says:

The ESPN2HD game does not always have to be the Big Ten game. The reason why it has been for weeks 1 and 3 is because it covers more of the country that the other game on ESPN2. Arizona-Iowa on ESPN2 will cover 88% of the country, while Virginia Tech-Neb will cover only 12%. Here’s an example from last year (Sept 20, ‘08)where the Big Ten game was not on ESPN2HD, because the other game on ESPN2 covered more of the country.

  8. Scotty Says:

Thats a good point Mike but thats also because most of the country got the Big Ten game on ABC. Notice who Michigan State was playing. The point is the contract I believe has the ACC and Big Ten games mirror. Juan you are right Arizona-Iowa probably will be a good game this week. But in the coming weeks the reverse mirrors could be pretty bad.

  9. Todd Says:

No Andy, Ohio State would be the most overrated team in the most overrated conference. All they ever do is run the table in the Little 10 and get beat every year in a bowl game

  10. JMW Says:

Interesting that parts of ACC territory do not get VT/NU on ABC or ESPN 2.

  11. Andy Says:

Obviously the Big Ten wanted to do what is best for their conference and fans and required that the Big Ten game be shown nationally on ESPN or ESPN2 if not aired locally on ABC. So there really is no option here. Arizona @ Iowa has to be shown.

The real question I have is why in Indiana, Michigan and most of Ohio are they airing the USC @ Washington game??? Why would they ever care about that game?

  12. JMW Says:

Plus its good for ABC/ESPN, because they reverse mirror a garbage game and make more people pay to see the game they want.

  13. Az Fan Says:

It’s about time for more Pac-10/Big-10 televised games like Arizona vs. Iowa…look at the great nail biter last week when USC beat OSU on “the 4th quarter drive.” Games are far more interesting when 2 different coaching systems play each other. Who wants to watch a game between Minnesota and Indiana? I’d rather watch paint dry……

  14. Hokie Says:

I understand wanting to show USC. The media are all in love with their new quarterback. And it is USC. Not saying it won’t be a good game.

I am just not sure though why you would pass up on two ranked teams playing especially since one of them is Nebraska which is getting much better each of the past two years.

As for VT being overanked – maybe but then again VT has been perhaps one of the best teams in the country in acheiving or exceeding their preseason rankings. So – overanked? Not sure – we will know as the season progresses.

  15. WTF? Says:

Todd, if you have followed college FH at all this year, the big ten is about the exact opposite of overrated…none of the pundits are paying hardly any attention to them and any time they mention the league, it is about it being down…

  16. Jesse Says:

I still don’t fully understand. I’m in Iowa, so I know I’ll get the Iowa-Arizona game in HD on ABC. And the Nebraska-VT game will be on ESPN2. But will that be in high def as well? I see no reason why not since I have an ESPN2 HD in my cable lineup.

  17. Rob Says:

ESPN2 HD will be showing the Iowa-Arizona game nationwide, but it will be blacked out in areas that will receive that game on ABC. You will get the Nebraska-VT in SD only on ESPN2 (alternate feed for those with a satellite) instead in those areas. There will be no ESPN2 HD feed of the Nebraska-VT game, the only people that will get that game in HD are those that are getting it on ABC.

  18. Jesse Says:

That’s horseshit, the game is shot in HD and there’s no possible way to watch it in HD if you’re not in the regional area, even with a dish or ESPN Gameplan??

  19. Rob Says:

Nope, it’s the crappy way that the reverse mirror system works.

  20. Dean Says:

The USC game will be the worst game on TV this week, if you are getting one of the two competitive games count yourself lucky. The Iowa vs. Arizona matchup is one of the most intriguing games of the weekend.

  21. Tim A. Says:

Yeah, well try being a Nebraska fan in California. I get the two games with pac-10 teams (USC-Wash and Iowa-AZ). The pac-10 is miserable to watch and of course being in Cali, that’s all I get to watch. So, I agree with some of what was said above. I understand showing USC-Wash on ABC, but couldn’t they show Iowa-AZ on ESPN and NU-VT on ESPN2? I am sick of the programing gods always thinking I want to watch a piece of crap pac-10 game just because I am stuck on the left coast.

  22. Pissed Off Husker Fan Says:

This is complete BULLSHIT!Yeah,I agree with you Tim A. don’t feel bad,I know how you feel.I’m a Nebraska fan in Ohio and I finally thought I was gonna get to see my team on tv this week without having to pay for it,and of course stupid ABC/ESPN screwed that all up like always. Why the hell is stupid usc and washington on here in ohio, just cause it’s stupid usc they have to put that damn game on here too when any other time those west coast games are regional and we would get the closer teams games over them.sick of all these damn big ten teams games screwing me from seeing my team sometimes too.iowa arizona?whoop dee doo.thanx alot abc/espn you just ruined my weekend!!!Sick and tired of this shit!!!

  23. jeremy Says:

why does anybody east of the rockies care what happens in the pac 10. way to go abc/ espn you really know how to sell those over priced game plans

  24. amy Says:

I don’t understand why the USC/Washington game would be played on the east coast over the VT/Nebraska game. I know of very few USC fans here in New York City. There are quite a few VT and Nebraska fans. And those that are not fans of VT are still more interested in watching VT because they are fans of a team that currently or previously (in the Big East) them. Two ranked teams playing each other gets sidelined for USC playing unranked Washington?????

  25. will be watching CBS Says:

I believe all fans who have been screwed should unite and watch NBC or CBS. I plan on watching the Tennessee v. Florida match. Much better than (yawn) USC v. Washington. Maybe if they lose enough viewership to other networks they will become more logical.

  26. steve Says:

I’m looking forward to the Iowa Arizona game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. mike pozyniak Says:

Both games available in HD here in Canada

  28. Jason W Says:

Great I can pay to watch the NU vs VT game, while the rest of the nation gets to watch the garbage that is USC vs Washington. Remind me again, did Washington win any games last season? ESPN and ABC need to pull their heads out of their asses and put the games that people want on TV. Why would you air a bunch of unranked teams like Arizona and IA when you have one of the largest fan bases in Nebraska fans. ESPN/ABC = a bunch of friggin monkeys who don’t know their ass from their nose.

  29. JT Says:

Living in Arkansas I am getting sick tired of not getting any Nebraska Football coverage, can only get by PPV

  30. adrian Says:

i am a usc trojans football fan on the east coast fan new york city college football season 2009 is here.

  31. PC Says:

It’s pretty sad that you have to watch nobodys and not have the choice to watch the game you want to watch. DON’T schedule all the games to be seen on ABC. Can’t you put them in other slots such as ESPN alternatives and such? Come on! Yeah, I live over on the East coast, but I would prefer to watch the USC vs Washington game myself and I can’t do that unless I pay for it on gameplan! Looks like ABC won’t be viewed by me today!

  32. PC Says:

By the way…WASHINGTON is making a comeback…watch and see!

  33. koach Says:

It seems to me that if you have satellite you should basically be able to watch whatever you want…i would like an explanation of what ESPN Alternate is and how do i tell if i will receive it for a game? anyone know? Also it would take a lot of stress off of the poeple who have to calculate these insane coverage maps. what’s the deal it seems pretty simple to me. Arizona/Iowa game should be everywhere except Arizona and Iowa where it would be on ABC and same with the two other games. What a waste of energy to figure all of this out! I really hope I get to see Nebraska Virginia Tech here in Connecticut on ESPN2 Alternate…don’t see how it would be hurting anyone if I got to watch it, it’s not like the NFL where I might watch it instead of going to the stadium……

  34. Sunny Says:

Not showing the Nebraska / Virginia Tech game is about as dumb as it gets. If you’re excited to watch Arizona and Iowa, great; I’m happy for you. But both those teams pale in comparison to the tradition and fanbase of NU and VT. I will not be watching any ABC or ESPN today. F’ the people that made this decision.

  35. Adam Says:

I am so mad I cannot watch Hokies / Huskers. Bitterness reigns. WHo in the WORLD would pick Arizone / Iowa over 2 ranked teams? Other than alums, no one…

  36. Bill Says:

Sorry, to see the upset of the year you will need GAMEPLAN. lol

  37. Phillip Says:

Good God !!!!! you stupid fkin morons , who in the hell hired you! I bet if you could see the Nielsen ratings for Birmingham Al, for the Iowa Arizona game you would puke, what asswipe would be in charge of showing that DAMN game over Neb vs Va tech. that should have been your damn national game of the week, people who bought ad time during that damn Iowa game are gonna be pissed when they see that their money was flushed down the fkin toilet. I hope you all get fired and you go to hell with a broke back!

  38. gregory Says:

don’t worry Arizona- Iowa people, you will get to see your game on ESPN2.
