College Football Regional Map for October 10
Another week another map. This week there are four games that will be covered regionally on ABC. Wisconsin at Ohio State 60% and Oregon at UCLA 18% Connecticut at Pittsburgh 3% Baylor at Oklahoma 19%. The reverse mirror will be on ESPN and will feature Ohio State at Wisconsin in HD and Connecticut at Pittsburgh in standard definition.
This week there is really only one game I want to see and the rest I can take or leave. Finally the Big Ten has given us a match-up that is deserving of the dedicated HD reverse mirror. I am intrigued by the Wisconsin at Ohio State game because this may decide the Big Ten. Wisconsin did not play anyone out of conference, but is 2-0 in the Big Ten having beat Michigan State and Minnesota. Wisconsin now has a chance to prove themselves against the cream of the Big Ten on the road (Ohio State, Iowa). So these next two weeks could propel Wisconsin into the top ten or put them in the middle of the Big Ten.
The other games all have flaws that could have been great games but are missing something, for Baylor at Oklahoma it is the fact that Robert Griffin has an ACL that is in pieces. Leaving Baylor without one of the most exciting college football players to watch going into Norman against a surly Oklahoma team after that loss to Miami.
If UCLA had not lost to Stanford last week their game against Oregon would have been just as big if not bigger than the Wisconsin at Ohio Sate game, but that game has lost a lot of its luster.
If UCONN at Pitt were in college basketball I would for sure be tuning in, but it is just hard for me to be interested in Big East Football unless Pat White is involved. So until there is an intriguing storyline out of the Big East I would rather watch any of these other games, yet somehow it got put in the reverse mirror. Please look at the victories that these two teams have to date. Pitt: YSU (try and figure that one out without googling terrible FCS schools with penguin mascots), Buffalo, Navy and Louisville. For UCONN they have beat Ohio, Baylor (respectable) and Rhode Island.
Also please find the full HD college schedule.

I’m very disappointed with this system. ABC/ESPN (and their Big10 partners) need to find a way to get us all their HD programming. I’d be willing to purchase access for it, but only if it includes HD coverage.
I love watching some of those PAC10 matchups…find a way to get them to me! in HD!

Speaking of who anyone has played. What about Wisky and OSU. They have beat nobody good OOC, now they get to feast on each other in the Big Crowd conference. Really the only thing this conference has going for it is big crowds. It really shows when they play in bowl games. They get spanked every year.

What does “reverse mirror” mean? I’m in California, and I want to watch Wisconsin and Ohio St.
I can watch it on the Standard Def. channel?

Matt C.,
You will be able to tune in to OSU-Wis. on your standard def. ESPN channel. In my market, the ESPN HD channel (typically in the 700s) has been broadcasting ESPNNEWS High Def during the reverse mirror games, while the standard def ESPN channel shows the game. That suggests me to it has nothing to do with HD broadcast bandwidth or capabilities, so I have no idea what this is all about…

The Big East game will be more entertaining that the Big 11, it always is. Heck, the BE is probably the better conference.

Whomever wrote this article seems a little clueless about Big East football. That does not surprise me as their are many of those types in the media.

Hey RayRayRay –
Please use your head a bit… Do not be overly influenced by the talking heads, or the high profile losses by Ohio State.
Let’s take a quick look at the Big10 versus the SEC (the best college football conference in the history of mankind (I’m being sarcastic))….
* 2-1 against SEC teams in bowl games last season.
* 8-6 record against SEC teams in bowl games the last five years.
* 15 BCS berths to the SEC’s 13
* Big Ten teams have produced five Heisman Trophy winners in the past 15 years, compared to the SEC’s one.
Every objective analysis that I’ve seen shows the Big10 to actually be equal to (or perhaps slightly better than) the SEC.
I pick SEC because they are always touted as being the best conference hands down. I think people get confused between ‘exciting to watch’ and ‘best team.’ SEC football is certainly more exciting to watch.

I am actually very excited about the Cincinnati USF game this upcoming Thursday so I don’t hate the entire Big East. I just think this game will be a snoozefest, I may be wrong though. My Pat White comment probably showed too much bias. I just miss watching him, and thinking about it Cincinnati is a very good storyline this year.
Plus Louisville is now “The Ville” so I guess I don’t hate the Big East I just hate this Match-up. Also, let’s put the over under on this game at 10. I’ll take the under

Can anyone tell me why Dish Network blocks out the reverse mirror games on ESPN?
October 10th, 2009 at 12:32 am
My God… it’s the year 2009. When are we going to be completely off standard def? I have to watch my game in standard def because I’m an Ohio State fan living in California. It shouldn’t have to be like this.

If I am reading this stupid “map” right, tOSU-Wisc game is on ESPN regular def???
An hour looking at TWC websites, ESPN sites, and ABC sites and I still cannot confirm FOR SURE what is on my TV today at 12:30 PST!
This is F’ing ridiculous.
October 10th, 2009 at 9:57 am
Does anybody at ESPN understand that a house full of snockered up tOSU & Wisc fans in SoCal can be very dangerous when Pit-UConn shows up on our TV at 12:30PST when we are expecting our game.
You would think ABC learned with Heidi!
October 10th, 2009 at 10:04 am
I agree completely!
October 10th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Totally agree with everyone above. I am in Spokane and can’t figure out what is going to be on ESPN at 12:30 here. It better be Ohio State or I’m going to be royally pissed off.
Is it really this hard for ESPN to just tell us what will be on in a way we can figure out? Pathetic.
October 10th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
In San Antonio they’re showing the Pitt/UConn game on ESPN instead of the OSU/Wisky game as listed above.
October 10th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
I wish the folks who put these maps together and plan broadcasts could USE THEIR FUCKING HEADS. The map clearly says that Pitt vs Conn would be blacked out in in the yellow area, so WHY IS IT ON IN TEXAS??
Is HD broadcast equipment so rare they cannot cover one of the bigger games of the week in HD? Did I transport back to 2002 some how? *sigh* Fuck ABC, fuck ESPN.
October 10th, 2009 at 3:57 pm
This is fucked up… they showed the map of coverage live on ESPN right before the games started and it was the same as the map above. Yet, here in Southern California they’re airing the Pitt/UConn game.
This is extremely frustrating. They can’t do this. We spent a lot of money and time organizing a party to watch the OSU/Wisc game and now we have a house full of extremely frustrated fans.
Does anyone have a number to call ESPN to complain? and find out what the problem is?
October 10th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
In the center of the midwest expecting the Ohio State-Wisconsin game I am getting the Pitt-Conn game and I don’t even know where they are let alone want to to watch that game. I am very much in the zone map where the good game is to be broadcast. What’s the deal? How about fix the problem?
October 10th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I am really pissed. Why is the Connecticut-Pitt game even on TV? Let alone the biggest college football channel nationally in HD? Absolutely idiotic.
October 10th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Tike: Flip over to ESPN-SD, it should be on there. And yes, it’s beyond idiotic to have Pitt-UConn on nationally over a top 10 team playing an undefeated team from a popular conference like the Big Ten.
So, so dumb. Heads should roll at ESPN over decisions like this.
October 10th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I refuse to watch the SD broadcast. One less customer for the day for all of their advertisers. I mean really. Here in TX most people are watching the Baylor OU game on ABC. But how many people are really watching the Conn-Pitt game? Neither of those schools have a significant non-alumni fan base. Ohio State does. Wisconsin does to a certain degree as well.
The East Coast bias is alive and well in ESPN-land.
October 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
What the heck is wrong with dish network blacking out this game. If only I couuld reach through the phone and stangle….
October 12th, 2009 at 9:34 pm
Get a clue about Iowa! Why is the dividing line between the Big10 & Big12 game always West of Ames? Iowa State University does in fact exist and central Iowa is Big12 country people!
October 14th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Dug, I honestly cannot wait to watch the Iowa State Cyclowns get beat by another awful Big 12 team. It’s called the Hawkeye State for a reason.
