ChannelSurfing.net

Extend your laptop to the big screen and enjoy the game that you want to watch.

It's Free! The bathroom is close and the food and beverages are inexpensive.

Or pay $80+ for Direct TV coverage. Or go to a pub with no sound, $5 drafts, and then wait in line to dispense of the $5 drafts.

Get DirecTV and their March Madness package and you won't have to deal with CBS's crappy decision making...... It's not that hard. I've had every game in HD for the past 5 years for a price of approx $80 each year. Well worth it.

I would agree with your argument about interested fans buying the package, but the problem is, even when you buy the package, you still don't get the constant feeds. You get the retarded whip around coverage, even when you're presumably paying to have access to every game. Memo to CBS--when I buy all the games, I can decide when I want to 'whip around' and I don't need to be flipped from game to game at the whim of your editorial opinion on which is the best game. That's my BIGGEST gripe with CBS, is that the pay per view channels (and the streaming internet feeds) should be the constant feeds. Let casual fan America watch the whip arounds on free TV--I should be allowed to see the games I want to see when I am the one paying directly for the freaking service.

<<I>>

Could not agree more. Especially for first round games, the ones that are likely to be competitive are the ones that get the larger audience. Nobody outside of West Virginia wants to see a game that will get out of hand after five minutes. Not only is it good for the viewer, it's good for business (more eyeballs = more commercial viewers).

NYC Dave,

that is so true! If ESPN had the tournament, we would see "Score Alerts" every 30 seconds telling us who's shooting a free throw, or who just took a timeout. ESPN has too much clutter on the screen!

Mike.. couldn't agree with you more. What's great about the NCAA Tournament is that everyone cares to some extent about every game since pretty much everyone watching the tournament probably filled out a bracket or 7. If you're that gung ho about having access to every game, you can buy Mega March Madness, or just go online where CBS gives you every game for free. But I like the whip-around coverage because you know that if there's a game coming down to the wire somewhere else, they'll get you there to see the finish. ESPN would probably just flash a score alert at the bottom of the screen and run a highlight 15 minutes later. That's not the NCAA Tournament we all know and love, that's a Tuesday night during the regular season.

Clayton,

I always hear about how crappy CBS covers the NCAA tournament, but who's to say that ESPN would do any better? Everyone assumes that ESPN would use ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNnews (or some combination of 4 ESPN stations) to cover all games nationally. However, look at how ESPN covers the Women's NCAA Tournament. The primary ESPN feed uses "whip-around" coverage for a majority of the country, while people in the local markets of the participating teams receive an ESPN alternate feed which feature the "constant" feed of the game (and those feeds aren't even in HD). Currently if you want the watch all the women's games, you must subscribe to it (just like how MMM is). And I would imagine that if ESPN got the rights, they wouldn't just give everyone all the games; they would want to make money from subscribers.

Yeah, but that was 2 years ago. So what does that game have to do with WVU getting the shaft when it comes to tv coverage, despite being # 2 (and as mentioned above, should be #1)?
