The announcer during the Northern Iowa – Kansas game said that a Missouri Valley Conference team had not advanced to the Sweet Sixteen since Larry Bird’s Indiana State’s team did it in 1979. This is not true since Southern Illinois University accomplished this feat in 2002 when they beat Georgia to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.

Karen, they said no MVC TOURNAMENT champion had advanced to the sweet 16 since 1979. BTW Wichita st, and Bradley also advanced to the sweet 16 in 2006.
