The 2008-2009 College Football season starts Thursday and today ESPN is finalizing preparations for the weekend’s festivities. As with seasons past, ESPN is utilizing a “reverse mirror,” wherein they broadcast a different game on a different ESPN network, depending on the region. This changes the network on which a number of games will be aired, and in order to make sure we know where to find the games, ESPN emails us a detailed map of which games are on in regions around the US.

ESPNU HD launches Thursday August 28th, just in time for the beginning of College Football season. The network will go live at 6:00 am EST and the first live ESPNU HD game will be Vanderbilt vs Miami (Ohio) at 7:30 that night, but not everyone will be able to see it.

Monday marks the start of the 2008 US Open and the extensive coverage by CBS and USA. Both networks will be carrying matches through the end of the tournament on Sunday September 7th.

Ten years after the first NFL game was broadcast in high definition, every regular season game for the 2008 season is set to be broadcast in HD. We have come a long way to get to this point…

For Week 21 of the MLB Fox is doing something we’ve been unaccustomed to this season so far. The three games that Fox will simulcast on Sunday August 23 will get nearly the same number of broadcast markets, making it one of the most evenly distributed Saturday Fox MLB games this year.

As the Summer Olympics come to a close, so too must the 2008 Little League World Series. Starting with the semifinals on Wednesday August 20th and reaching through the weekend to the Championship Game on Sunday August 24th, ESPN and ABC will be airing 9 more live high definition games.

After broadcasting just two simultaneous games last week, Fox has returned to its traditional 3 game system for the Saturday August 16th Game of the Week.

In the true spirit of global competition, ESPN and ABC are broadcasting 32 high definition games of the Little League World Series (which features both international and domestic matchups ) between August 15th and August 24th.

Mixed Martial Arts is back on Showtime, as the network prepares for ShoXC (EliteXC + Showtime = ShoXC) Friday, August 15th at 11 PM EST.
