After good news about the Tour de France being in HD as well as Wimbeldon, there is some bad news finally. The British Open has once again fallen into the pits of SD up-conversion. The British Open Golf Tournament, scheduled to begin Thursday the 16th will not be in High Definition on TNT or ABC again.

NBC and ESPN will be covering the US Open this year with nine hours of HD coverage on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday NBC will have exclusive coverage on the weekend with six hours on Saturday and five and a half hours on Sunday.

Golf’s Ryder Cup is starting up this week, and NBC & ESPN are teaming up to deliver the goods. Opening Ceremonies are Thursday the 18th at 4, but first round play doesn’t start until the next day, Friday the 19th at 8:00am on ESPN.

Even though the Olympics are somewhat of a huge deal these days, and pro golf has temporarily lost it’s Franchise Player Tiger Woods, and the PGA Championships are likely to suffer from semi-weak TV ratings this weekend, TNT and CBS are still pulling out all the stops to cover the PGA Championship.

In dramatic fashion, Tiger Woods dropped a birdie putt to force an 18 hole playoff for the 2008 U.S. Open Championship. Number one ranked Woods will face the 158th ranked Rocco Mediate starting at 12:00 PM ET on ESPN and coverage will shift to NBC at 2:00 PM ET.

The 2008 US Open begins Thursday, June 12th and is scheduled to run until Sunday, June 15th (unless a playoff is necessary on Monday the 16th). ESPN and NBC are sharing coverage of the event, with the broadcasts extending through primetime on the east coast.

The 2008 Masters Tournament coverage is likely to be one of the best high definition productions of the year. Beginning Wednesday, April 9 with the Masters Par 3 Contest, and continuing through the final hole on Sunday, April 13, there will be at least 16 hours of live Masters high definition broadcasts.

The final match is set in the WGC Match Play. Tiger Woods will face Stewart Cink for 36 holes (First 18 on The Golf Channel at 10am and Second 18 on NBC at 2:20 pm.
On the “undercard”, Justin Leonard and Henrik Stenson square off for 18 holes with a 2:05 p.m. tee time.
