The NHL on NBC is back for the 2009-10 season. In it’s fifth season they will once again be the NHL’s main broadcast partner. My favorite part of the NHL schedule is the outdoor game that has become a New Year’s day tradition. This year the game will be played in Fenway park with the Bruins taking on the Flyers. Here’s to hoping it snows.

The quest for the cup is about to come to an end, and NBC will begin their coverage this Saturday and Sunday with games one and two. There will be five games broadcast in high definition on NBC and two games on versus. Games three and four will be broadcast on VS, and we still feel it is a shame that the cup could be lifted on VS (in the case of a sweep).

After two more exciting (well, one exciting and one boring) game sevens in the NHL last night the NHL conference finals are set. The good news is there will not be any more games played at the same time like the ridiculous scheduling for last night’s game sevens. The bad news is Versus is still broadcasting all the games but two.

As we have three pivotal game sevens in the NHL coming up, we figured a post about the Stanley cup finals would be appropriate. NBC has announced the dates they will be covering the NHL Stanley Cup finals. They will be covering games one and two as well as games five six and seven if necessary. Versus will be covering games two and three.

The NHL Stanley Cup Conference Semifinals are about to get underway, and the NHL got what it wanted: Ovechkin vs. Crosby. The reseeding of the NHL produced one of the most anticipated team and player match-ups in recent history, much to the chagrin of fans in Boston and Carolina. Three games from that series as well as one game from the Chicago Vancouver series will be joined in progress and not shown in their entirety nationally.

UPDATE: 10/7/2008 Homcom has updated the high definition 2008-2009 NHL Schedule over on the Homcom Blog. Ovr 76% of the NHL season will be in HD this year.

The Stanley Cup Championship has arrived. Starting on Saturday, May 24, the last 7 game series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs begins, pitting the Detroit Red Wings vs the Pittsburgh Penguins. Versus HD will carry the first two games of the series, and NBC will broadcast the possible five remaining games.

The NHL Stanley Cup Conference Finals are set to begin Thursday, May 8th. The complete schedule has been released, including the starting times and channels for all games leading up to the Finals.
